Julie Velloti-Nahlen: Born and raised in Northern
California, moved to Boise, Idaho in 1992 when her husband transfered to
the Idaho Hewlett-Packard site. March 1995, she held her first week long chess camp.
December 1995, Day Camp, Vancouver, WA. Inspired by the results at the local level, went
on to the 1996 Elemenary Chess Nationals. After the team took first place in
the U1000 Club Team division, 1996 Elementary Chess Nationals, Tuscon,
AZ., she was further inspired in August 1996, to begin Chess Anyone?
Chess Club; an all age, all level program. March 1997, she held a 70
student, week long chess camp. April 1998, Chess Anyone? Chess Club, 1998
Idaho State Scholatic Chess Champions, Junior and
Elementary Divisions, and son, Daniel Vellotti, 1998 Idaho
State Scholastic Jr High Chess Champion and 4th place, 1998 All America Cup, Tuscon,
AZ. Also in 1998, opened Chess Anyone? Chess Academy, a chess school. May
1998, Chess Coach of Pioneer Elementary School , 18th Place, K-3 Division, 1998 Elementary
Chess Nationals, Peoria, IL and 1998 Idaho State Elementary Champions. April
1999, Chess Anyone? Chess Club, 1999 Idaho State Scholatic Chess Champions, Club Team
Division, and son, Daniel Vellotti, 1999 Idaho State Scholastic Chess Champion,
13th place, 1999 Denker Tournament of High School Champions, Reno, NV, 8th place, 1999
USCF Grade Level Championship, Columbus, OH. July 1999, "Chess Mom and
Girl's Cabin Mom " National Chess Camp, Los Angeles, CA. April
2000, Assistant Coach to son, Daniel Vellotti's chess club "Master's
Academy," 2000 Idaho State Scholastic Chess Champions, 7-12 Grade Division, and 2nd
place K-3 Division. Daniel Vellotti, 2000 Idaho State Scholastic Chess Champion, 13th
Place, Denker Tournament of High School Champions. Her youngest
son, John Nahlen, 2000 Idaho State Scholastic Chess Champion,
K-3 Division (Tied 2nd place overall). In addition to coaching at local
schools and hosting local rated and unrated tournaments,
presentations ,"Mini Camps" and events, she encourages other schools,
and clubs, and other chess "groups" to form. She has been a
USCF Certified coach and USCF Certified TD (Tournament Director) since 1998; TD
at 2 nationals events and various events in California and Oregon. She
thoroughly enjoys teaching chess to children of all ages.
